Specifications of EPHEDISP format version of 2005.06.30 ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ EPHEDISP format is for describing time series of site position variations. A file in EPHEDISP format consists of records of variable length in ASCII coding. The records are separated by a character with decimal code 13. The records are grouped into sections. Sections follow in this order: 1) Header record -- the first record should have a signature: EPHEDISP Format version of 2005.06.30 The header record allows to distinguish a valid file in the EPHEDISP format from files in other formats. 2) P-records section P-record has letter P in the first field. It defines the number of records of each type, the number of epochs and the number of sites. 3) T-records section T-record has letter T in the first field. It defines a time epoch of the beginning of the range, a time epoch of the end of the range and duration of the sampling interval. Time epochs and a sampling interval cannot be defined more than once. 4) A-records section A-record has letter a in the first field. In general, displacement field depends on site coordinates, but within a small area this dependence can be ignored. The A section specifies the radius of the area around a site for which the displacements can be considered the same within errors of computations. 5) S-records section S-record has letter S in the first field. It defines a name and coordinates of each site. A site cannot be defined more than once. 6) D-records section D-record has letter D in the first field. It defines three components of the displacement vector for a given site, for a given epoch. The site should be defined in the preceding S-record. The time epoch should be within the epochs range defined in the preceding T-records. The displacement for a given site and a given epoch cannot be defined more than once. 7) Trailer record -- the last record is the same as the header record. Records which start from # character are considered as comments. Format of a P-record: --------------------- Field 1:1 A1 -- Record ID: letter "P". field 2:2 a1 delimiter: blank. A valid file in EPHEDISP format should have one T-record of each type. If the record ID is "T begin ", then the record defines the first epoch of the interval. Format: Field 1:8 A8 -- Record ID. Displacements are valid to any point within this distance from a site. Format of an S-record: ---------------------- Field 1:1 A1 -- Record ID. Should be letter S (decimal code 83). field 2:2 a1 delimiter: blanks. Field 4:11 A8 -- 8-letter long site identifier. May contain any characters with decimal codes 32-255, but blanks are allowed only at the end of the site identifier. This site identifier should be unique among S-records. This field should not necessarily have a special meaning. Parsing software should not try to interpret it. field 12:13 a2 delimiter: blanks. Format of a D-record: --------------------- Field 1:1 A1 -- Record ID. Should be letter D (decimal code 68). field 2:2 a1 delimiter: blanks. Field 3:7 I5 -- Epoch index. Epoch index 1 corresponds to the beginning of the epochs range. Therefore, the epoch of a D-record is (MJD,TAI) + (K-1)*Sample_interval where MJD,TAI -- the epoch of the first epoch defined in the T-record and K is the epoch index. field 8:9 a2 delimiter: blanks. Field 73:80 F8.5 -- North displacement in meters. Comments: --------- 1. Site IDs in this files are ARBITRARY. They do not have any meaning and are for internal labeling only. Parsing software SHOULD NOT try to use and match them against common station names. Site coordinates should be used for matching stations within the area of validity defined in record A. 2. Radial displacement in up direction is defined as a displacement in the direction parallel to the direction from the geocenter to the site with coordinates defined in the S-record. 3. A valid file may have less D-records than the product of the number of site and the number of epochs. Thus, displacements for some sites may not be defined for all epoch. A site defined in the S-record may not have not have displacements defined in D-records at all. 4. Gaps in time series of displacements for a given site are not allowed. Displacements for all consecutive epochs within the range (which may be different for different sites) should be defined. 5. D-records must be sorted in the order of increasing time epochs.
